Knitted Port Pillows

Port-a-Cath or Catheter Port pillow to protect medical ports from seatbelts.

Pillow is knitted flat, ties are added during knitting using e-cast on and basic cast off. Then item is folded in half, sides are sewn, piece is stuffed with poly-fill on open side, then pillow is sewn shut. Sizing allows pillow to be easily tied onto a seatbelt and positioned.

Join with us in this community art project promoting mind and brain health.

Knit or crochet neurons that will be used to create a giant “human brain” display at the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) of Charlotte. Your handmade creations will be featured with neurons crafted by health care professionals, patients and community members, to weave a giant virtual textile ‘neural network’. This display will help create awareness about brain h
ealth. The display focuses on the principle that yarn craft, with its mental challenges, social connection, and mindfulness, helps to keep the brain and mind sharp, engaged and healthy.

LCI needs several hundred individual neurons, so we hope we can successfully meet this goal.  LCI will be hosting an educational symposium focusing on brain health and emotional well-being in cancer in spring 2020.  The educational event will culminate in the installation of this collaborative and creative project.

What is a Neuron?
Neurons are electrically excitable cells of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The billions of neurons in your body connect to each other in neural networks. They receive signals from every sense, control movement, create memories and form the neural basis of every thought.
