Making a Commercial Pattern Fit Your Body
Sunday, April 25th, 1pm-4pm ($45)
Instructor:
Jane Prater
Commercial patterns are made to fit a mythical standard body which is exactly a size 2 or 4. Then the pattern is scaled upward to fit larger sizes. The more you scale, the more you distort and move away from real women’s figures. Pattern makers EXPECT you to alter the pattern.
In this class we will use your measurements, to compare to their schematic and learn where and how to adjust. Each person should leave class with a new plan for their pattern to custom fit it to her individual body. This class will assume you can get gauge and is not a class about gauge. It’s really about mixing sizes and the transitions from one to another.
Supplies: Your measurements, a sweater or t shirt which fits you well (more than one is okay), a pattern you want to knit with a schematic. Email me if you need help with this. Calculator. Ruler. Pencil and eraser.

Perfect for summer knitting. Lace is lightweight, fast when knit on larger needles, and makes a great gift scarf.

Supplies: Scraps of yarn in any weight up to dk. Keep it smooth and light colored. Needles in a range of sizes. I use two very short needles, sometimes just two double points. Pen/paper; scissors, markers and a tapestry needle. If you have a pattern you are particularly interested in, bring that as well..
